When Your Kids Push Your Buttons

A New Parenting Class at Chapel School

A certain look, a defiant act, your child "pushes your buttons", and you say things you swore you never would. Blame, regret, shame - does this "spinning out of control" action/reaction cycle sound familiar? Effective parenting is achieved when we connect with our children, understand what their behavior is trying to tell us, and end the parenting "road rage" to give our children the help they may really be asking for. This highly respected parent education program, "When Your Kids Push Your Buttons and What You Can Do About It" (voted one of the top 10 parenting books by the New York Post), will help you discover what your buttons are, where they come from, why your children push them and how to diffuse them so you can regain your authority, your sanity, and your children's cooperation and respect.

You will learn:
• How to identify buttons and determine their purpose
• Why reactions have less to do with the child and more to do with ideas
• The importance of understanding agendas - both yours and the child's
• About the unintentional messages sent across the gap when a button is pushed
• How to set your expectations for success rather than failure
• How to understand behavior and its meaning from a new point of view

Session I has begun.  Session II will begin in January and Session III will begin in March.  The cost for the class is $40 and the cost for the book is $20.  Classes are open to Chapel School families first and opened to the community if space allows.  Class size is limited to 10 participants.
